The diploma thesis has a theoretical-application nature. It reflects a status of a photographic portrait from the point of view of intermedia overlaps. The main goal of the diploma thesis is to reflect the status of the photographic portrait in the 21st century through an image analysis of selected communiqués. The diploma thesis provides a theoretical overview of the basic aspects of portraiture. It also elucidates crucial cultural, social and technological influences, which overwrote the conventions of photographic portrait. The goal of the thesis includes also putting the current intermedia tendencies of photography, which change the nature of the portrait as an artistic form, into context. The thesis includes an overview of selected strategies and approaches used by current authors and it elucidates the nature of their work. Methodology of this thesis is based on studying literary and information sources on the theory of photography, media studies, cultural studies and theory of arts and aesthetics. The practical outcome of the thesis is represented by the thematically coherent photographic series made of self-portraits. In these portraits, a wide spectrum of semiotic layers develops via reconstruction and staging of the authentic reality. By the systematic space-time reconstruction of events from the life of the author the thesis extends the function of the self-portrait. The narrative nature of the staged photography along with the sophisticated scenography pushes the limits of the self-portrait towards a wider epic whole. The self-portraits representing the practical outcome abstract the essence of events which are a part of the author’s identity, thereby creating somewhat deeper kind of pictorial representation of a person. The series of self-portraits gains the dimension of visual autobiography.

Autoportrét sa zo svojej podstaty spája s istou formou inscenácie a reprezentáciou autorovej identity. Cieľavedomou časopriestorovou rekonštrukciou reálnych udalostí z môjho života práca rozširuje funkciu autoportrétu. Scény sú konštruované na základe priamych skúseností, teda na základe priameho kontaktu s realitou. Naratívna povaha inscenovaných fotografií a scénografia posúva hranice autoportrétu smerom k širšiemu epickému celku. Dôkladnou réžiou a inscenáciou však táto séria autoportrétov skôr dosahuje kvalitu kinematografickej inscenácie. Z konkrétnych postáv sa rekvizitami a gestami stávajú herci v autorskej inscenácii, ktorí niečo predstavujú, alebo symbolizujú. Inscenáciou sú niektoré informácie hyperbolizované, iné zase potláčané. Každý z vytvorených autoportrétov predstavuje javisko, ktoré je ohraničené hľadáčikom. Fotografia je vždy priestorovým a časovým výsekom. Znázornené situácie však strácajú rozmer času a sú vyňaté z autorovej osi života. Zobrazená situácia je privilegovaná, vytiahnutá z tečúceho kontinua, čo paradoxne dotvára jej význam. Prepožičiavam si realitu, aby som ju v konečnom dôsledku premenil späť na realitu samotnú. Tieto autoportréty abstrahujú esenciu udalostí, ktoré reprezentujú časť mojej identity.
V práci maximalizujeme efekt subjektivity. Úmyselne neskrývam svoje pocity a pohnútky, práve naopak. Totálna kontrola nad scénou intenzifikuje vzťah autora k obsahu týchto fotografií.
Prostredníctvom rekonštrukcie a dramatizácie autentickej reality dochádza k vzniku širokého spektra semiotických vrstiev. Denotácie a konotácie, ktoré pri interpretácii praktického výstupu u diváka vznikajú sa stávajú bohatým zdrojom faktov o živote autora. Môžeme hovoriť o vzniku fotografickej autobiografie, ktorá mapuje úsek autorovho života. Tematicky ucelená fotografická séria vyskladaná z autoportrétov, ktoré inscenujú skutočné situácie vlastné autorovi, sa stáva špecifickou formou portrétu. Vzniká tak akási hlbšia forma reprezentácie človeka obrazom.
Pri pohľade na tieto autoportréty si percipient nemá ako overiť pravdivosť znázornených scén. Psychologická istota a dôvera v pravdivosť fotografie sa prelína s nedôverou voči mediálnemu svetu.
